Design Engineer Intern

Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Mechanical engineering, solid modeling, and product design
- Coordinate the creation, development, design, and improvement of products in conformance with established programs and objectives
- Provide detailed support to Sales and Manufacturing departments as needed
- Create models in SOLIDWORKS, conduct finite element analysis and other simulations
- Develop gearing-specific customer application expertise
- Assist for design/development and technical support of new Standard Product, modification of existing Standard Product and new Custom Designs
- Assist in creating engineering drawings, BOMs, test plans, and technical reports
- Assist in managing projects to reduce cost and ensure the quality of new and existing designs
- Manage own time and work activity while handling multiple projects and tasks
- Work effectively in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment
- Interface with customers’ technical staff, core Engineering groups and company Sales Representatives
Experience and Education Required
- Mechanical or related Engineering degree students
- 1 or more years of experience designing and developing mechanical machinery
- Familiarity with various machining operations (milling, turning, grinding, gear cutting)
- Knowledge of metallurgy, experience in the design of gearing systems, emphasizing optimization of performance, manufacturability, cost, and reliability
- Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills
Technical Skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook
- Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D design software is required
- Knowledge of FEA, DFMEA, structured problem solving
Travel Required
- May be required to travel occasionally
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
